How to Style a Rustic Wedding

Weddings are beautiful! It doesn’t matter what time of year they happen, it doesn’t matter what has happened to get to the big day, they are just beautiful! It’s the final picture that I love most, the culmination of all the little bits that come together to form the overall theme. The flowers, the food, the decoration and the setting all reflect the personalities of the couple so perfectly.

My wedding was a rustic affair on a disused vineyard in a modern barn, filled with lots of flowers in rustic containers that a friend of ours made. We ate a ton and my wedding dress was ruined with apple sour shots, but man was it fun!!! In doing some research for a friends’ wedding, I’ve realised that all these years and 2 kids later, my tastes and ideas are all still the same!

If you’re currently researching wedding ideas, be true to yourself, your design personality stays with you for life!

Here’s my design personality and my top tips for styling a rustic wedding!

1. Invite to delight

You don't need to spend a fortune, often handmade ideas work better. Invite some girlfriends over for a craft night!

2. The Venue

With a bit of thought and planning, any venue can be styled to your taste. Vineyards, old rustic barns and villas, whilst perfect backdrops, may not suit your budget. It's just as easy to use the local hall and transform it into a rustic dream.

3. Make an Entrance

Set the scene... create a wow factor that excites your guests on arrival

4. Foraged Flowers

The rustic theme, lends itself well to beautiful bunches of foraged flowers tied with string or dotted around in glass jars of various sizes and shapes.

5. Light up the night

Bring down the lights and dine & dance by candlelight! Hang fairy lights from the ceilings and through the trees for a magical touch.

6. Eat, drink and be very merry!

The latest trend in food styling is wedding stations or grazing platters. A great opportunity to mix and mingle over delicious cheeses, meats, nuts and fruit.

7. Snap it, hashtag it, share it!

The social side of wedding photography is the photo booth. Often some of the most enjoyable moments are captured by your friends and family!

8. Wedding Favours

This popular "thank you for spending the day with us" is often given pride of place with its own table and styling. There are many options from confetti's to soaps to warm snuggly blankets.
